Hot "bucket list"

Last night, I took my family up Table Mountain. After 18h00, it is half price (Adults South African Rands = R 90.00 / US Dollars $ 13, Kids U18 years R45.00 US Dollars $ 6.50) = bargain. You can hike up (for free), or "catch" the cable car. See the photo further down, of the amazing view. You get a 360 degree view on top of the Mountain, and even during the cable car ride up (the floor of the cable car rotate). Over and above the fact that it is cheaper to go after 18h00, you also get to watch the sunset (last night it was (19h49). It is breathtaking.

So we took a few tin's of Sparkling wine (yes, you can get it in tin's), orange juice, wine, chicken bites, cocktail sausage rolls, small sausages, meat balls, sweet chilly chutney, cream cheese & salty biscuits and we "picnicked" on top of the mountain. What an experience!!

Fact file;
The cable car has been in operation for over 80 years. Each cable car (their is 2) can carry up to 65 persons = 800 people per hour. The cable car floor rotate, giving everyone a 360 degree view. Table Mountain at it's highest point is 1,085m high. It is believed that Table Mountain is at least 6 x older than the Himalayas. It was formed under the sea about 600 million years ago. It has a huge number of animal and plant species (Most common animal the Dassie which is a type of rodent that looks like a fat brown rabbit without the floppy ears. Would you believe the closest relative to be the African Elephant?) "Rock Hyrax" http://thewebsiteofeverything.com/animals/mammals/Hyracoidea/Procaviidae/Procavia/Procavia-capensis.html).

Anyway, I have been on the Mountain before many years ago but this was on my family's bucket list of things to do... and we have done it.... and we have enjoyed it tremendously. I will highly recommend it to anyone visiting South Africa or Cape Town. By the way, from the top of the mountain you can see the entire city, the Atlantic coast line, Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned), Camps Bay & Clifton (two of the most beautiful beaches in the world), Sandy bay (a Nude beach for the naturalists) and the list goes on.....
