Human Trafficking - Human Slavery

I watched a program on CNN today regarding Human Trafficking. I was so distraught with what i heard. How disgraceful that in this day and age, governments do not do enough to combat this evil. This must be one of the most, if not the most, awful crimes being committed against human beings, most of them woman and children.

What is Human Trafficking?
According to Wikipedia;
"Human trafficking is the illegal trade in human beings for the purposes of reproductive slavery, commercial sexual exploitation, forced labor, or a modern-day form of slavery."

When i read this definition, i can't believe that untill 2011 we have stood back and not done anything about this evil. Is it because it has not affected one of our family members? Is it because it only affects "other people"? Is it because it is not your sister, your daughter?

Well, think again!

According to statistics, Human Trafficking is second only to the drug trade and is tied with the illegal arms trade. Worst of all, it is growing very fast. One of the reasons is the ridiculously low penalties and punishments awarded when these culprits are arrested i.e. On CNN this morning, a family (father and son) was found guilty on various counts of Human Trafficking and the son on one count of rape. The rapist son got six years only? As far as i am concerned, it is worse than kidnapping and rape and second only to murder. The punishment should be a minimum life sentence and in countries who support the death sentence, it should even be considered.     

"The United Nations estimates nearly 2.5 million people from 127 different countries are being trafficked around the world.^"

All governments should immediately employ the necessary resources to protect it's citizens from this evil. They should immediately review the laws and sentence's applicable and make sure that the punishment suits the crime. They have a duty to provide security to the people, a duty to protect the children, to provide justice for the victims and to bring justice to these monsters involved in it.



Time to stand up and let the goverments know;
